Congressionally Directed Spending Requests

Senator Coons has submitted funding requests for a diverse array of community projects in Delaware that are eligible for congressionally directed spending to the Senate Appropriations Committee. The requests detailed below have been transmitted to the Senate Appropriations Committee for consideration; however, they are not guaranteed to be funded or to be funded at the requested level. New additions to this list of Fiscal Year 2022 requests will be added between July 1 and July 23, 2021.

Under guidelines issued by the Appropriations Committee, projects are restricted to a limited number of federal funding streams, and only state and local governments and eligible nonprofit entities are permitted to receive funding. Additional information on eligibility for congressionally directed spending is available here.

Electrical Substation for Garrison Oak Business and Technology Park

The purpose of this project is to construct an electric substation that will increase the City of Dover’s overall power supply to support economic development and specifically provide electricity to the 126-acre Garrison Oak Business and Technology Park.

Fenwick Island Coastal Storm Damage Reduction Project

The purpose of this project is to provide funding to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to complete periodic beach renourishment to protect Fenwick Island from coastal storm damage and beach erosion.

Improving the Durability of Fuel Cells and Electrolyzers

The purpose of this project is to support research at the University of Delaware to improve the durability of hydrogen fuel cells and make the technology commercially viable. The project will ultimately encourage new startup companies and help generate high-paying electro-chemical jobs in Delaware.

Indian River Inlet Sand Bypass Project

The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the Indian River Inlet Sand Bypass crane, and replace its diesel pump motors with high-capacity electric pump motors in order to mitigate erosion and damage to State Route 1.

Capital Improvements to Historic Milton Theatre
