WILMINGTON, Del. — Senator Chris Coons (D-Del) released the following statement regarding the departure of Delaware Secretary of Education Lillian Lowery, who has been named Maryland’s State Superintendent of Education:
“Lillian Lowery’s exceptional leadership skills have elevated Delaware to a position of national recognition in education reform. In Dr. Lowery’s tenure, Delaware competed for and won grants in the extremely competitive Race to the Top and Race to the Top - Early Learning Challenge programs. She has an extraordinary gift of being able to build consensus and bring people together for the common good. I am honored to call Dr. Lowery a friend, and while we’re going to miss her expertise here in Delaware, she leaves behind a legacy of positive change that will be with us for years to come.”
