WILMINGTON, Del. - Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement following the nomination of Governor Nikki Haley to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations:
“Our next ambassador to the United Nations must use our influence to advance American interests and values, and build multilateral support for our positions. Governor Haley deserves fair, thorough scrutiny before taking on this important role. I commend Governor Haley for rejecting during the campaign President-elect Trump’s divisive rhetoric and for calling his proposed ban on Muslims from entering the U.S. for what it is: unconstitutional and un-American. I hope she will continue to provide her unvarnished opinion to the Oval Office should she be confirmed for this important post. I look forward to digging into Governor Haley's record, experience, and qualifications for this critical role.”
