WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) issued the following statement following President Obama’s announcement of a balanced framework for reducing our deficit.
“Any serious strategy for reducing our deficit needs to look beyond the relatively small portion of the budget occupied by discretionary spending and must include reforms to Medicare and Medicaid, Pentagon spending, and a comprehensive review of our tax system.
“The President’s vision takes that more holistic approach, reducing the long-term deficit by more than $4 trillion in 12 years while protecting our significant economic progress and making critical investments in education, research and development, and infrastructure to keep our country competitive globally.
“We all must share in the sacrifice and we all must live within our means.”
Senator Coons is a member of the Senate Budget Committee.
