In March 2011, Sen. Coons attended an event at Howard High School of Technology honoring the first anniversary of Delaware’s Race to the Top funding award.
On Saturday, March 19, 2011, a rededication ceremony and ppen house was held at the Amtrak Wilmington Train Station. The event, sponsored by Amtrak, the State of Delaware, the City of Wilmington, the Delaware Congressional Delegation and the Friends of Furness Railroad District, marks the official reopening of the historic train station. The Amtrak Wilmington Station renovation project began in May 2009. After nearly 2 years, the $37.7 million renovation of Wilmington Station is now complete. Amtrak passengers utilizing the station now enjoy a more comfortable and convenient station that features a larger concourse, safety improvements and a new passenger information display system. In addition, the renovation includes enhancements to the station’s accessibility to people with disabilities.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) reiterated his call for a repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, cosponsoring a bill introduced today by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and 17 other Democratic Senators. The Respect for Marriage Act would repeal the provision in the Defense of Marriage Act that forces the federal government to recognize only marriages between a man and a woman and instruct that the federal government shall no longer discriminate against same-sex couples.
On March 8, 2011, Senator Coons attended the “UD in DC Day” reception showcasing the University of Delaware’s leadership in federally funded projects awarded through the NIH, NSF, DOD, DOE, USDA, NOAA, NASA and other federal agencies.
