Clean Energy and Innovation Briefing

In June 2011, Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) was an honorary co-host at a luncheon briefing on exploring technologies and financing behind today’s clean energy innovation. The event was hosted by the American Chemical Society and American Institute of Chemical Engineers and was held in the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.

Congressional Delegation-Hosted Job Fair in Dover

On May 31, 2011, more than 1,100 people looking for work came to a job fair hosted by the Delaware Congressional delegation at Delaware Technical and Community College in Dover. There were 80 employers and academic institutions on hand for the fair.

Hire American Veterans Press Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) joined Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.), chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and Senators Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Mark Begich (D-Alaska) at a press conference with veterans struggling to find work, veterans service organizations, and employers to discuss aggressive new legislation to address rising unemployment among our nation’s veterans. Senator Coons is an original cosponsor of the Hire America’s Heroes Act — the first bill of its kind to require broad job skills training for all service members returning home and comes at a time when more than one in four veterans aged 18-24 is unemployed. In addition to providing new job skills training to all service members, the bill will also improve direct federal hiring so that more service members have jobs waiting for them the day they leave the military.

Johnson Controls Ribbon Cutting

In May 2011, Senator Coons attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Middletown Johnson Controls facility. Johnson Controls, Inc. is the world’s largest supplier of automotive batteries. This new facility is going to be a 400,000 square-foot distribution center, which will perform the charging, packaging and distribution of automotive batteries for the Northeast region of the United States.

Earth Day 2011

On Earth Day 2011, Senator Coons visited the Russell W. Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge on Wilmington’s Riverfront.
