Under Secretary Kappos and Delaware students discussion- October 2012

On October 11, 2012, Senator Coons hosted David Kappos, the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, for a discussion with doctoral candidates at the University of Delaware and Delaware State University about commercializing technology developed at universities. Senator Coons is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and was a cosponsor of the America Invents Act, the 2011 legislation that radically modernized the patent system. Under Secretary Kappos advises the President, the Secretary of Commerce and the Administration on intellectual property matters.

Candlelight Vigil at the Sikh Center of Delaware – August 2012

Three days after a shooter killed six people at a Gurudwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Senator Coons joined members of the Delaware Sikh community for a candlelight vigil at the Sikh Center of Delaware. The purpose of the vigil was to take a stand against hate and honor the memory of those who died during the shooting.

Bread for the World Meeting – June 2012

Senator Chris Coons meet with representatives from Bread for the World, a faith-based organization focused on addressing global hunger on June 12, 2012. After the meeting, Senator Coons was presented with an award for protecting development assistance at a reception in the Senate.

Michael N. Castle Trail at the C&D Canal

U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, and U.S. Rep. John Carney joined federal state and local officials to announce the naming of the Michael N. Castle Trail at the C&D Canal. Monday also marked the groundbreaking of the first phase of the approximately 16-mile long shared-use recreational trail along the north side of the C&D Canal.
