WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) released the following statement in response to the recent announcement that Senate Republicans do not have the votes to pass their bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“Now that the Senate Republicans clearly cannot pass their Affordable Care Act repeal and replace bill, my hope is that we will begin to work across the aisle. The Affordable Care Act—or Obamacare as it has come to be known—has done some great things. It has made it possible for more than 150 million Americans to get higher quality health insurance through their employers, and for tens of millions of Americans to get health insurance for the first time.
“But, as I’ve heard from Delawareans, it has also provided health insurance that has become too expensive for some, and for some small businesses, it has made it less affordable for them to provide health insurance to their employees. So, my hope is that the Republican majority will abandon their efforts to cut hundreds of billions of dollars out of Medicaid in order to give a big tax cut to the wealthiest Americans and will instead focus on working together across the aisle to address some of the challenges with the Affordable Care Act.”
