Monday, October 3 – The Senator will host Department of Labor Secretary Thomas Perez for tours and roundtable discussions in New Castle County on workforce development.

Monday, October 3 at 10 a.m. – Sens. Coons and Carper with Secretary Perez will try their hand at welding alongside apprentices and will then take part in a roundtable with local elected officials, community leaders, and program participants on the importance of apprenticeship programs. Monday, October 3 at 12 p.m. The Senator and Secretary Perez will join students enrolled in Zip Code’s coding school for a hands-on coding challenge. The Senator and Secretary will then join Delaware’s Secretary of Labor Patrice Gilliam-Johnson and business and community leaders on a tour of Zip Code and participate in a roundtable on workforce development. Wednesday, October 5 at 12 p.m. — The Senator will participate in a panel discussion for Yale Divinity School called “Faithful Citizenship and the 2016 Election. He will join panelists Otis Moss III ’95 M.Div., Senior Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago and Miroslav Volf, Henry B. Wednesday, October 5 at 5:30 p.m. — The Senator will attend the City of Wilmington’s 14th Annual Wilmington Awards ceremony. The Wilmington Awards is designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of distinguished Wilmington citizens who excel in the fields of the arts, athletics, business, education, environment, and health or science. The awards also recognize individuals for their community service, heroism, contributions to the faith community, and dedication to the cause of human and civil rights. Friday, October 8 — The Senator will mark National Manufacturing Day by hosting Unites States Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Michael Scuse with the following list of events:

Sen. Coons and Sec. Scuse will tour Merck’s labs with local students and 4H club members and will discuss careers in agriculture, science and manufacturing.

Sen. Coons and Sec. Scuse will have a working lunch along with students from different disciplines including the Industrial Training Lab at Polytech High School.

2 p.m. Croda, Inc.

Sen. Coons, Sec. Scuse will receive a tour from representatives from Croda, and discuss some of the career opportunities that are available in manufacturing.
