WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) released the following statement Thursday night after the Senate’s failure to invoke cloture on legislation that would have put more than a thousand Delaware teachers and first responders back to work.
“I am disappointed that the persistent partisanship of the Senate has once again claimed important legislation that would have made an immediate impact on our nation’s jobs crisis by getting hundreds of thousands of teachers and first responders back to work. It’s hard to believe that, in nearly 12 months in the Senate, the most productive thing I’ve been able to do for Delawareans looking for work is the three job fairs we’ve hosted around the state to connect 5000 of our neighbors with employers ready to hire. Washington is broken and could learn a lot from Delaware. It is long past time that my colleagues get over their politics and come to the table in good faith to get Americans back to work.”
