WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) this evening joined members of both parties in support of the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, which creates new reporting requirements for Members of Congress and their staffs and clarifies that they are subject to insider trading laws. The legislation was approved by a final vote of 96-3. Senator Coons released the following statement:

“Congress should live by the same rules as every other American. The STOCK Act earned broad, bipartisan support – no small feat in today’s climate – because it’s about simple fairness and common sense. It is about keeping the faith of the constituents who sent us to Washington to do a job, not to enrich ourselves. It is vitally important to restore the American people’s trust in government, and the STOCK Act is a step down that road. Elected officials at all levels should be held to the highest standards of ethics and transparency.”
