WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) released the following statement on Republican leadership’s decision to tie cyber security legislation to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

“Cyber security is a critical issue for our country, and any legislation to protect the United States from cyber threats requires a full, open debate on the Senate floor.  The issue of cyber security is simply too important to be used as a political chit and tucked away in separate legislation. I urge Leader McConnell and Senator Burr to consider cyber security legislation separately from the NDAA.”

“To be clear, I have real concerns with privacy-related issues in the cybersecurity bill currently under consideration, and that only reinforces my belief that this issue must be addressed on its own, through a fair, transparent process.”
