WASHINGTON – Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) responded to President Obama’s announcement today of a new review of federal regulations to make it easier for businesses to create jobs, issuing the following statement.
“Today, the President took an important step toward reducing hurdles faced by businesses in Delaware and across the nation. While there are many federal regulations that protect Americans’ health, safety, and environment, there are also a number of rules that simply do not make sense. Some are redundant and others outdated. The President is right to order a review of existing regulations and demand greater transparency for the process by which agencies issue new rules.
“We must ensure that job-creating businesses, especially Delaware’s high-tech manufacturers and small and mid-size government contractors, do not have to wade through unnecessary red tape. I hope that regulatory agencies will also take a closer look at other regulations that affect Delawareans, including rules concerning the development of wind energy off our coast, eligibility criteria for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder to receive treatment at VA facilities, and current federal orders regarding milk pricing. All of these deserve a second look under this new review.
“I applaud President Obama’s efforts to examine and improve the regulatory process, and I look forward to seeing concrete results over coming months that benefit Delawareans and all Americans.”
