WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) released the following statement after a majority in the House of Representatives, comprised of both Democrats and Republicans, successfully filed a discharge petition and forced a vote to reauthorize the Export-Import bank. Final passage in the House is expected today. If passed in the House, the reauthorization bill would then head to the Senate.
“I applaud the efforts of Republicans and Democrats who have worked together in the House of Representatives to finally move reauthorization of the Export Import Bank forward,” said Senator Coons. “A clear, bipartisan majority of Senators also supports reauthorization of EXIM, so Leader McConnell should put aside his personal opposition and bring it to the floor immediately. There is no shortage of evidence that EXIM strengthens our economy by supporting jobs and giving U.S. companies the tools they need to compete globally. Each day Congress fails to reauthorize EXIM, we needlessly continue to put American jobs and American businesses at risk. It’s time to re-open EXIM and put American jobs ahead of politics.”
