WILMINGTON, Del. – U.S. Senator Chris Coons, in partnership with the Goodwill Job Resource Center, hosted a free job skills workshop in Wilmington on Thursday evening. This event was part of the Senator’s ongoing effort to help get more Delawareans back to work. The 130 attendees worked on honing their job-search skills and learned about the art of networking, how to write an effective resume, and how to master the interview process.
“Though Delaware’s unemployment rate is dropping, there are still far too many of our neighbors out of work,” Senator Coons said. “We must continue to support our neighbors who are out of work by not only helping them find jobs, but helping them get jobs. Putting Delawareans back to work remains my top priority, and these workshops and job fairs have proven to be a productive way of helping those still looking for work.”
Representatives from the Goodwill Job Resource Center were on-hand to explain the services they offer, and career coach, author and speaker Yusuf Wilson presented an interactive job-search seminar titled, “The Art of Networking: Leveraging Traditional and Social Media Networking Strategies to Get Hired.”
Thursday’s was Senator Coons’ second job-search skills workshop since taking office, and in the coming weeks he will announce additional events designed to help job seekers around the state. Last year the Senator also hosted three job fairs that attracted more than 4,900 job seekers and well over a hundred employers.
“Our economic recovery is directly tied to levels of employment in our communities,” Senator Coons said. “We must ensure that we are doing everything we can to help out-of-work Delawareans have opportunities to get back to work and that those who are employed are able to keep their jobs.”
