WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement in response to reports that three U.S. Special Forces soliders were killed in Niger.

“I am deeply saddened to hear the news of three U.S. Special Forces soldiers killed in Niger. Their sacrifice should serve as a reminder to us all that we face significant, urgent challenges on the African continent and that American men and women are risking their lives there to protect our country every day. Now is the time for the Trump Administration and members of Congress from both parties to work together on a comprehensive strategy for U.S. engagement on this increasingly important continent.”
