DOVER, DE – Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons and Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (all D-Del.) will host their annual Congressional Youth Conference for more than 100 Delaware high school juniors on Monday, May 22 at Delaware State University. The delegation is currently seeking civic-minded high school juniors to apply for the conference. Interested students should contact their school’s administration or guidance office for application details. The late U.S. Senator Bill Roth organized the first Youth Leadership Conference in 1969, hosting it annually until 2000.

Students will have an opportunity to interact with their congressional delegation in an open forum setting, during which the students will discuss issues and concerns important to them. After their disYouth Conference Logocussion with the delegation, students break into sessions where they will spend time with a member of the delegation in a more personalized setting discussing topics such as “The Future of our Environment – The Role of Post-Millennials in a Warming World,” “Liberty and Justice For All – How the Post Millennial Generation Matters In the Fight for Equality and “Breaking the Glass Ceiling – Do Post Millennials See Gender and Ethnicity as an Obstacle or an Advantage?”

“For more than 40 years, students attending the Congressional Youth Conference have been benefiting from Senator Roth’s vision,” Senator Coons said. “This tradition provides an opportunity for aspiring leaders from across Delaware to come together, to share ideas, and to gain insight into real world challenges and opportunities. I thoroughly enjoyed talking with the students about their futures, and I look forward to hearing from them down the road when they are the next U.S. senator, a scientist, journalist or educator.”

School administrators or guidance counselors who are interested in registering students should contact Shavonne Bailey at Shavonne_bailey@coons.senate.gov or workshop@coons.senate.gov.
