DOVER — Senator Chris Coons welcomed high school juniors from across Delaware at the American Legion Boys State program in Dover. The five-day long event, taking place at Wesley College, is a unique summertime educational experience that focuses on the operation of local government.
Chris talked about what it’s like to follow a career in public service and encouraged attendees to pursue their dreams and to work hard to turn those dreams into reality.
An educational program of government instruction for U.S. high-school students, Boys State has been affiliated with The American Legion since 1935. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.
