WILMINGTON, Del. – On Tuesday, Senator Coons visited the ITWorks learning lab in Wilmington, bringing with him top management staff from Barclays, CapitalOne, and JPMorganChase to connect directly with jobseekers. Those three companies combined have more than 1000 local entry-level IT job positions available at this time.
ITWorks is an award-winning, 16-week immersive IT training program, free of charge to motivated young adults who have not completed college. Throughout the course of the program, students can earn up to two professional IT certifications and are given real-world experience during a five-week internship.
Through ITWorks, young people become job-ready for a technologically sophisticated workplace by teaching them PC configuration and networking skills, troubleshooting, customer service and communication skills, all while acquiring an understanding of a professional work environment. ITWorks provides these students with an experience that will help improve their income potential for life—and 75% of ITWorks graduates move into full-time employment in the IT sector within 7 months of graduation.
“Keep up the good work, keep plying your craft,” said Sen. Coons, addressing the ITWorks students assembled Monday. “The skills you have learned here and continue to learn here will benefit you in the future and will help you become a successful individual.”
On Monday, students at ITWorks were able to meet with representatives from some of those companies and apply some of the professionalism and career skills also taught in the program. Delaware, a state home to many banking companies with positions in IT that constantly need to be filled, benefits greatly from nonprofit programs like ITWorks.
