On Saturday, March 19, 2011, a rededication ceremony and ppen house was held at the Amtrak Wilmington Train Station. The event, sponsored by Amtrak, the State of Delaware, the City of Wilmington, the Delaware Congressional Delegation and the Friends of Furness Railroad District, marks the official reopening of the historic train station. The Amtrak Wilmington Station renovation project began in May 2009. After nearly 2 years, the $37.7 million renovation of Wilmington Station is now complete. Amtrak passengers utilizing the station now enjoy a more comfortable and convenient station that features a larger concourse, safety improvements and a new passenger information display system. In addition, the renovation includes enhancements to the station's accessibility to people with disabilities.
