“There was no greater ally of firefighters in Delaware or across the country than Lou. His remarkable 70-plus years of service to Hockessin Fire Company and his more than thirty year leadership of the Delaware State Fire School set a high standard for dedication to Delaware's fire service.  Lou was also an outstanding national leader, from his role on the landmark National Commission for Fire Prevention and Control in 1970 to his lengthy service on the NFPA board and the Congressional Fire Services Institute board.

"Lou was a giant in the fire service, and his decades of dedicated service are a testament to how much he cared about his calling and his neighbors. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.  I first met Lou in 2000 when I was county council president, and over my ten years in county government Lou was a frequent source of powerful advice, encouragement and insight,” said Sen. Coons.
