WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and co-chair of the bipartisan Senate Law Enforcement Caucus, released the following statement on the President’s signing of an Executive Order to create the Task Force on 21st Century Policing.
“The best way to keep our communities safe is by ensuring everyone’s voice is empowered and heard,” Senator Coons said. “It’s great news that the President is moving forward by bringing together law enforcement representatives, community leaders, academics, and youth to explore ways to build public trust and strengthen relationships between law enforcement and those they protect. As the co-chair of the Senate Law Enforcement Caucus and a former county executive, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with some of our nation’s most dedicated officers, and I am consistently moved by their professionalism and commitment to serving their communities. I look forward to the Task Force’s report and working with leaders in Delaware to find ways to implement its recommendations. At the end of the day, we all share the same goal of a just society, so we all must do more to build trust and bring our communities together.”
