WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement after President Trump announced that he has nominated Christopher Wray to serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

“Christopher Wray is a serious and experienced attorney who has worked both in private practice and at the Department of Justice, where he was the Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Criminal Division.  I’m encouraged that President Trump has nominated someone with significant federal law enforcement experience, rather than a career in partisan politics, as was rumored over the past several weeks,” said Senator Coons.  “As a member of the Judiciary Committee, I look forward to closely and thoroughly reviewing Mr. Wray’s full background and meeting with him soon.  It is critical, particularly at this moment, for the FBI to have strong, respected, and independent leadership.”
