Judiciary Committee passes bipartisan bill to protect Special Counsel, co-authored by Sen. Coons

WASHINGTON – Today, with strong bipartisan support, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, a bipartisan bill co-authored by U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), supported by a vote of 14-7. The bill can now be considered by the full Senate. The legislation now includes an amendment drafted by Judiciary Committee Chairman, Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa.), that each of the bill’s co-authors supported.

“I’m inspired by the Judiciary Committee’s bipartisan vote of 14-7 to adopt and refer to the whole Senate my bill with Senators Tillis, Graham, and Booker to protect the Special Counsel,” said Senator Coons. “We worked well with Chairman Grassley and Ranking Member Feinstein to refine and improve the bill and make today’s vote possible.”
