Coons, colleagues mark World Press Freedom Day with bipartisan resolution

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, joined Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations’ Subcommittee that oversees human rights, and other Senate colleagues in introducing a bipartisan resolution to commemorate World Press Freedom Day. The resolution underscores the sacrifices that journalists around the world have borne in pursuit of truth and accountability. The resolution also acknowledges increasing international threats to freedoms of the press and expression against the backdrop of COVID-19. 

The resolution was also cosponsored by Senators Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Bob Casey (D-Pa.).
