WILMINGTON, Del. — Today, members of the Climate Solutions Caucus met virtually with Frans Timmermans, the European Commission Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, and Stavros Lambrinidis, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the United States, to discuss international climate cooperation.

“The United States must join our European allies in leading by example on climate action by reducing our emissions, supporting clean energy innovation, and incentivizing global cooperation,” said Senator Coons, co-chair of the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus. “The Caucus was honored to host Executive Vice-President Timmermans and Ambassador Lambrinidis as the United States and the EU continue to identify ways that we can work together to address the climate crisis.”

“Greenhouse gas emissions do not respect borders, thus, addressing our changing climate is a global problem that warrants global solutions. As policymakers in Washington, we must remember that costs incurred on just the American people will not make meaningful progress towards solving our changing climate. Instead, we must continually cooperate with allies to ensure that our emission reduction efforts in the United States are matched globally,” said Senator Braun, co-chair of the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus.

The Senate Climate Solutions Caucus promotes bipartisan discussion about climate policy and advocates for Congress to play a central role in addressing the challenge. Since launching in late 2019, the caucus has held regular meetings with a variety of stakeholders to discuss their concerns and priorities for federal climate policy and opportunities for collaboration.
